Moving from one paradise...

to another...

In about 3 weeks, we are moving from the North Shore of Hawaii in Laie to Newport Beach California. All I have are bittersweet feelings right now... but I am excited for what lies ahead!

Great Aloha Run 2010

My friend Cassie and I decided to do the 8.15 mile Great Aloha Run that goes from downtown Honolulu to the Aloha Stadium. I never thought I would be able to do something like this, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. We both jogged the whole thing without stopping, and it took us about an hour and forty minutes. We were so proud of ourselves. Maybe now I can at least see a half marathon in the future!

This year for the 4th we watched the fireworks from the Turtle Bay golf course since Aaron works there. We were able to take some carts out and BBQ on the course before the firework show started. It was an amazing show and such a relaxing night!

After the firework show at Turtle Bay, we went back to our apartment and lit some sparklers. We had lots of fun with those...

My 21st Birthday!

This year was my big 21st birthday! Aaron had an awesome night planned for me! Originally Aaron had planned to take me to a restaurant called Jameson's in Haliewa, but last minute we decided to just get a pizza and eat it on the beach (one of our favorite things to do in Hawaii). Aaron told me that when we were done eating we were going over to our friend's Brett and Cassi's house to have cake. I told me that I wanted to go home and change first. The minute I opened our front door, I heard several voices yell "surprise!". I had no idea that Aaron had planned a little surprise party for me. Lots of our close friends were there to wish me and happy birthday and eat my favorite cake from Ted's Bakery... Chololate Haupia Cake! I can honestly say that it was a perfect birthday!

He also decorated the front of our apartment...

Aaron turned 26 this year on April 28th... and yes I am just now doing this post. We have had the most hectic past couple of weeks. This year I wanted to do something really special for Aaron, so I planned a surprise dinner at Lei Lei's for him with our close friends. I can't believe he didn't catch on after all the texting I was doing planning this thing! Here are some pictures from the night!

Valentine's Day is always so much fun for me! Today I have been thinking back and had a sweet memory of my dad come to mind. I remember last Valentine's Day my mom had sent me a nice package with a card. Each person in my family signed it. Next to my Dad's name he wrote: "OUQTINVU". I will never forget that. My Dad is such a sweet heart and I love him so much.

Just a reminder that Valentine's Day isn't just about your one and only. To me it is also a day to express how much I love my entire family. They mean everything to me. Talking to each member of my family today made me feel so grateful for them. Whenever i get a little lonely here in Hawaii, all I have to do is look at some photos and think of them. A warm comforting feeling always overwhelms me when I do this. They are my best friends and I love them.

P.S. I love my sweet husband who has already given me chocolates and balloons today. He keeps telling me that this is the best Valentine's Day because I am his Valentine!

I had the flu last week... so i went and bought some popsicle's. Not ones with ice cream or ten flavors in one. Just the original orange, cherry, and grape. That's what I always had growing up when I would get sick. After eating my first one, I was surprised to see a joke written on the stick. I had to share the joke with Aaron... which led to him telling me some of his favorite jokes. Here's one of my favorites that he told me.

Why did the orange go to the doctor?

...because he wasn't PEELING well!

We made it! We are all done with finals and have started our Christmas vacation. I guess I should tell you what's been going on the past few weeks. We actually just moved in to the married student housing. Our new apartment just seems so BIG! At least compared to our last place. We now have 2 bedrooms, a stove & oven, and a bathroom that includes a sink. I now have 4 burners, not just 1 hot plate. Aaron even found a free 37 inch t.v. on craigslist! I doubted it at first... it really did seem way to good to be true, but it's actually really nice. There is a catch though. Sometimes it starts up right away... and other times it can take up to 10 min. But hey, it was free and you can't beat that. We're just lucky we even got to move. There was alot of flooding a few days before we were suppose to move. All but our house got flooded. Our neighbors swing set was practically under water. It was crazy. It dried up just in time for us to move... although it did rain the whole time we were moving our things. So then we were all set to go to Washington for Christmas. We were on our way and almost to the airport when my dad called. I told him we were leaving at 5:10 p.m. and would be arriving at 10:00 p.m. in Seattle. Can you see the problem with this. When you take into account that the flight is at least 5 1/2 hours long and with the time difference and everything, the math didn't quite work out. That's when I decided to double check what time our flight was suppose to leave. My heart pretty much stopped as I looked at the paper and then at the clock. It was already 3:30 and our flight had left at 2:10. Great... what were we going to do now. I just couldn't believe that I had gotten the time wrong. What an idiot I can be sometimes. So we caught the next flight out at 10:30 p.m. The trip was much much longer than we had anticipated. Aaron assured me that everything was fine as long as we had each other. :) Once we got to Washington, we were surprised to see tons of snow on the ground. It finally started to feel like Christmas. Hawaii just doesn't cut it for the holidays. We have had so much fun enjoying the snow here sledding and making snowmen. It looks like we really are going to have a white Christmas this year!

Golf.

Aaron started his new job at Turtle Bay Golf just a few weeks ago. Lucky for us, we get all the FREE golf we want. Little did I know that this would entail Aaron wanting to go golfing ALL the time. I have really had no choice but to try it out. The farthest I have made it has been to the driving range. Although I have hit a few balls on the course, I prefer to be Aaron's "Cady". I just can't seem to hit the ball on my first swing. It generally takes me about 3 or 4 times before I can actually hit the ball... and then all I get from Aaron is… "Are you being serious right now?" Then I sarcastically say back… "No Aaron... I want to miss the ball on purpose." Thanks for that comment Aaron. Sorry that this is only my SECOND time golfing. I really wish I could do better, but running is my thing... not golfing. Besides, I get bored after about the 4th hole, but just at about this same time, the refreshment cart comes along and I treat myself with a few chocolate chip cookies, which my husband can't eat since he's a diabetic. Oh well. I need something to tide me over for the next 5 hours while Aaron hits more than one ball at the T (more like 5) so that he can practice different shots. Its more like we're playing with 5 other golfers. Golf is a long long game... and it's even longer when he plays it this way. By the time we get to the 18th hole, i'm ready to stop playing golf and I never want to go back... but somehow I find myself at the exact same place on Aaron's next day off!

Say goodbye to WALKING! Aaron and I bought our first car... 1996 Honda Accord. I've lived in Hawaii for over 2 years without a car. I think I deserve this. No more walking to school in the hot hot sun finally getting there totally drenched in sweat , no more caring home an arm full of groceries, no more begging our friends to borrow their cars, and best of all no more MOPED (which still doesn't work $450 later)! We love having a car on the island.

My first day back in California was definitely unexpected. We had started hinting of the idea of marriage to each other over the past week, but we were thinking more of getting married either in December or waiting until spring. I honestly still don't know what exactly happened that day, but we went out to dinner at El Torito (one of our favorite restaurants) and decided to go home and tell Aaron's parents that we wanted to get married on August 16th... 3 1/2 weeks away! I'm not gonna lie, we were nervous about what reactions were coming our way. We did it though. We went home and told R-Dawg and Sher-bear (Ralph & Sherri). They were taken back a little... by the way, Aaron's sister Christina had just had her wedding the weekend before. Just when they thought all the wedding stuff was over... we hit them with another one. You can't blame them, I mean we hadn't even been dating for that long and half of our dating relationship had been over the phone. Things seemed a little bit uneasy that night, but by morning, Sher-bear was already helping us with the wedding plans. The next thing we had to do was tell my parents. They actually took it pretty well. My mom kind of already knew about what was going on from us talking, so my dad was prepared with some things to say in case he did get the phone call telling him I was getting married. The funny part is that my dad didn't even end up saying any of the things he was planning on saying. I guess it just seemed right. They had really liked Aaron when he had come up to visit. Now the worst part was over, but I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Planning a wedding is the most time consuming thing I have ever done. When the time is right, things will all work out. We were able to get the reception location reserved quickly, invitations were designed by Aaron's cousin Chris, and my dress ended up being the very first one I tried on. It was the most hectic but exciting time of my life. My wedding was everything I had ever wanted. We got married in the Newport Beach Temple and had our reception at a poolhouse right on the bay. My immediate family flew down along with my best friend Amy, and then later had another reception in Washington where I am from. All of our closest friends and family were there. We had big laterns as our center pieces that we lit up with candles. My colors were black, champayne, and pearl. Aaron's parents had put together an awesome dinner for everyone... mexican food! My favorite part about our wedding reception is when we were leaving and everyone was on the beach with sparklers as we left the reception on a kayak. There were clear skies and the moon was huge. We got to go around the bay and then drove to our hotel in the tracker. This was one of the most memorable days of my life... and I couldn't have picked a better person to spend it with!

Washington & California

Aaron had gone home for the spring and summer semesters, while I had planned on staying in Hawaii for spring and summer. We did manage to plan a trip to see each other in June. Aaron had actually come up to Washington for the weekend while I was visiting my family, and then I went to California for a week after that. When Aaron was up in Washington, we ran a 5K race with my mom and sisters, I showed him Deception Pass Bridge, and took him to Seattle. While I was visiting Aaron in California, he had planned something fun to do for everyday that I was there. Disneyland was the best! Since Aaron only lives 15 minutes from there, we got to go twice that week. The summer firework show was awesome! Aarons grandparents live on Balboa Penninsula, so we would ride our beach cruisers to the ferry, and then rode to their house. It was right on the beach. Aaron introduced me to the beach game SmAsHbAlL. You have two paddles and hit a ball back and forth. We got 100 hits that week. Later on our honeymoon though, we made 500 hits. We spent alot of time at the beach. Going to Rosarito Mexico was one of my favorite days. It takes about an hour and a half to get down there from where Aaron lives. We have a friend named Pam who lives there and she invited us to come down and hang out. She lives right on the ocean. One of my favorite parts about going to Mexico was hearing Aaron talk in spanish. Since I was there for the 4th of July, we went to a family friends house who lived in the Hills of Newport. Aaron's mom was actually a nurse for Clint who lives there. We could see almost every firework show because we were so high up. The week went by way too fast. I did not want to leave, but I had to go back to Hawaii. I had planned to be an EFY counselor and my little sister was coming out for it. It hadn't even been a week that I had been home before we decided that we wanted to spend the rest of the summer together. After EFY was over, I went right back to California...

...How it all started...

I thought, since this is my first post, I should tell a little bit about Aaron and I's history. I knew of Aaron from school, but I never had really thought anything of him. My best friend Amy had just moved out here and I wanted to introduce her to some of my friends. We just happened to go over to Aaron's house and that was the first time I had really talked to him. He was crazy, but lots of fun, so we hung out every now and then after that. I was going for a run one night and decided to stop by his house on my way home. I honestly wasn't thinking anything of it. I just wanted to be friends. I mean, any of you who have met Aaron would know how entertaining and fun he is to be with. We talked for a minute and he asked me if I wanted a ride home on his moped. Of course I did so we went over to my house. One thing we always joke about is how Aaron would do a break check while I was on the back so that I would hold him tighter. That's Aaron Bobik for ya. When we got back to my house, me and my roomate Amy started talking about a school dance that was coming up. It was called "Winter Ball" and it was going to be on the Star of Honolulu cruiseship. We thought it would be fun to go with a bunch of friends. There was actually someone I was suppose to kind of go with, but I didn't want to go with him AT ALL, so I got Aaron to go with me instead. (I just told the other guy that I had already promised Aaron) Some might say that's mean but you gotta to what you gotta do... right? Anyways, that was it. We were going to the dance together. The dance was that Saturday. We hung out quit a bit that week. I love it because we would go running together or play tennis. I remember the night before the dance we went to a volleyball game that one of his friends from Newbury Park was playing in. It wasn't until that night when I realized that I might acutally have a crush on this guy. Aaron although has a different opinion. He thinks I wanted him since the first day we hung out. WHATEVER! So we went to the dance together with a few other couples. We had alot of fun. I still remember when he held my hand for the first time that night. He also tried to kiss me... figures. We couldn't have had a better first date. The next day, Aaron called me again and asked if I wanted to hang out. This time, he took me to Kawela Bay with a few of his other friends. We actually made torches to take with us for when we went through the woods to get to the ocean. This is where it all started... and i guess we all know what happened next!
